Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei questioned the basis of US claim of self-defence, asking “self-defence against what” and whether there had been any armed attack by Iran to justify such a response. In a post on X, Baqaei said there was no such incident, insisting the action could not be described as self-defence and instead constituted “an act of aggression against the nation of Iran”. “So this was absolutely NOT ‘self-defense’ — it was an act of AGGRESSION against the nation of Iran,” he added.
