Tehran: On Tuesday, Iranian authorities criticized professional skater Niloufar Mardani, who competed abroad without adhering to the country’s mandatory hijab rules. She defied the rule amid protests sparked by the death of Mahsa Amini. Iran’s sports ministry underscored “maintaining Islamic values in sports competitions” and said that Mardani had not competed in clothing approved by the ministry.
