It began as a satirical online project. Now millions of young Indians are flocking to it as an outlet for their frustration over unemployment and deteriorated quality of life. A parody political party called the Cockroach Janta Party, with the insect as its symbol, has exploded across India’s social media by turning absurdist humour into protest. CJP amasses nearly 18 million followers on Instagram in less than a week, compared with fewer than 9 million for PM Modi’s BJP, symbolic of growing frustration towards the right-wing ruling party.
