LONDON: Residents of London’s Brick Lane, a historic centre of the Bangladeshi community, are opposing plans to build a data centre on a former brewery site. They fear the project could erode the area’s heritage and limit opportunities for social housing. The redevelopment will also bring offices and retail space, reflecting London’s growing digital infrastructure needs. Rising demand for energy-intensive AI facilities has sparked similar opposition elsewhere worldwide.
