Hamas has praised the deadly shooting attack as “heroic and unique”. It described the incident as “a natural response to the occupation’s crimes and the war of extermination it is waging against our people”. The group said in a statement: “It is a clear message that its plans to occupy and destroy Gaza city and desecrate Al Aqsa Mosque will not go unpunished.” Israel has announced that at least four people have been killed in the occupied West Bank settlement of Ramot Alon, north of Jerusalem.
