Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh met Egypt’s intelligence chief Abbas Kamel in Cairo, the militant group said in a statement. During the meeting, two sides discussed the situation in the Gaza Strip. Egypt, alongside Qatar, was involved in previous talks that led to the release, at the end of October, of two women kidnapped by Hamas during its attack on October 7.
