China has welcomed the Gaza ceasefire agreement and said it hoped it was used as an opportunity to promote de-escalation in the Middle East, Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said on Thursday. Beijing also hopes the agreement will be implemented effectively, so as to achieve a comprehensive and permanent ceasefire in Gaza, he added.
