Attempts to isolate Iran likely to backfire

Iranian authorities will choose escalation over surrendering, in response to the US’s latest bout of sanctions on Tehran, says Lorenzo Kamel, a history professor at the University of Turin in Italy. “History tells us that the attempt to isolate Iran will bring precisely the opposite,” Kamel told Al Jazeera. The same powers that were “torpedoing Iraq”, which led Iran to spread its influence in the region, are the same actors stating that we need to sanction and isolate Iran, he said.
