Thousands of Ukrainian soldiers who survived the front lines of the war are returning home as amputees. As the government tries to work out a peace deal, many veterans say giving up territory would be wrong, given what the war has cost them. “I lost many of my brothers-in-arms, and nearby units also suffered heavy losses. Are we just going to give it up like that? I do not agree,” veteran Vitali Khotabych told Al Jazeera from a rehabiliation centre in Kyiv.
