Nur-Sultan: On Jan 10, Russian President Vladimir Putin claimed victory in protecting Kazakhstan from what he interpreted as a foreign-supported terrorist rebellion. He also vowed to leaders of other ex-Soviet states that the Moscow-led coalition would safeguard them too. After anti-government protesters plundered and ignited public buildings, Putin sent paratroopers last week to protect strategic facilities.
