Pakistan is celebrating the 144th birthday of Dr. Allam Iqbal, the country’s national poet, who inspired millions of Muslims across the subcontinent to seek an independent homeland where they may freely practise Islam.

The day began with special prayers for Pakistan’s success and prosperity in mosques.

Dr. Allama Muhammad Iqbal, regarded as the “Poet of the East” in Pakistan and other areas of the world, was born in Sialkot on November 9, 1877.
