NEW DELHI: BRICS members, including China, Russia, Iran and the UAE, called for “maximum restraint” in the Middle East as fighting between the US and Iran continued. A joint statement urged protection of civilians, respect for sovereignty and uninterrupted trade, energy and shipping routes. The bloc condemned attacks on safeguarded nuclear facilities as violations of international law and called for ceasefires and humanitarian access in Gaza, Lebanon, Sudan and Syria.
