The finance ministry revealed on Thursday that the National Accountability Bureau had only recovered and deposited Rs6.5 billion in the kitty since its formation, putting the anti-corruption watchdog’s claim of recovering over Rs821 billion in jeopardy.

Tanvir Butt, the additional secretary budget, told the Senate Standing Committee on Finance that the actual amount collected and deposited in the federal consolidated fund is just Rs6.5 billion.

The recoveries during the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government’s tenure (2018-19 to September 2021) accounted for only Rs1.4 billion, or 21.5 percent of the overall recoveries.
