WASHINGTON: US lawmakers are stepping up calls for stronger artificial intelligence safeguards following warnings from Anthropic researchers about potentially catastrophic risks. Researcher Jacob Coxon said AI could threaten humanity within the decade, while colleague Evan Hubinger backed the assessment. Senators Mark Kelly and Ted Cruz, along with Representative Anna Paulina Luna, urged Congress to address AI risks through tighter oversight and legislation.
