According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, almost 21,000 people should have been allowed to leave the enclave by now. This was the figure promised in the US-led deal agreed last October. About one-third of them were patients in need of urgent medical care, accompanied by two companions each. In reality, fewer than 7,500 people have been allowed to leave – a compliance rate of just 36 percent. Currently, tens of thousands of people who have been cleared for urgent medical evacuation are still trapped in Gaza.
