Abas Aslani, a senior research fellow at the Center for Middle East Strategic Studies, says recent reports of progress in US-Iran negotiations are encouraging, but questioned whether Iran would agree to discuss its nuclear programme at this “initial stage”. Instead, he said Iran anticipates the peace agreement to address an end to hostilities, the lifting of the US naval blockade against it and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. “Details related to the nuclear issue are expected to be discussed after a deal is in place,” Aslani told Al Jazeera from Tehran.
