UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres says the disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz are “strangling the global economy”, warning of lingering economic distress even in the “best case scenario”. Even if restrictions were lifted today, “supply chains will take months to recover, prolonging lower economic output and higher prices”.
