Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, is alive following joint strikes by Israel and the United States, the country’s foreign ministry said, amid escalation tension in the Middle East. Speaking from Tehran in an interview with US media outlet NBC News, Abbas Araghchi said that two commanders had died during the strikes, but Khamenei remains alive, “as far as I know”. Araghchi added that other senior Iranian officials also survived the attacks and emphasised that “everything is fine” within the country’s leadership.
