Fatemeh Mohajerani, an Iranian government spokesperson, says Tehran supports lifting restrictions on internet access but such a move has been overridden by “binding” security concerns. Speaking at a news conference, Mohajerani said that in circumstances in which “security is at risk”, decisions to block the internet are taken at the level of the Supreme National Security Council. The connectivity watchdog NetBlocks said internet service in Iran is out for the 18th day in a row.
