US President Donald Trump spoke by phone with Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim on Tuesday after the Israeli strike on Hamas leaders in Doha. The White House said that during the call, Mr Trump assured Sheikh Tamim that “such a thing will not happen again on their soil”. Qatar’s government said Mr Trump had praised Doha’s mediation efforts in the Gaza war, stressing that its role is essential to achieving peace in the region. “His Highness the Emir affirmed that the State of Qatar will take all necessary measures to protect its security and preserve its sovereignty,” a Qatari government statement said.
