Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has rejected the UN’s finding of famine in Gaza, saying it ignored recent humanitarian steps by Israel. “Israel does not have a policy of starvation. Israel has a policy of preventing starvation,” Mr Netanyahu said on Friday. “Since the beginning of the war Israel has enabled two million tonnes of aid to enter the Gaza Strip, over one tonne of aid per person.” The UN famine report does acknowledge a modest increase in aid entering Gaza this month, but says it is “largely insufficient” to address extreme food shortages. Israel controls entry and exit to the strip.
