A Palestinian diplomat has told the UN’s highest court that Israel is killing and displacing civilians and targeting aid workers in Gaza in a “man-made catastrophe of unprecedented proportions”. Ambassador Ammar Hijazi was speaking on Monday at the opening of a week of hearings at the International Court of Justice into Israel’s legal obligations to help aid agencies in the occupied territories. “This legal and moral crisis is not merely 18 months old. Israel has been systemically dispossessing, uprooting, slaughtering, and imprisoning Palestinians in absolute, flagrant disregard for international law and the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people for nearly 80 years,” Mr Hijazi said.
