Turkey will help Syria’s new government build its state structures and draft a new constitution, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan told reporters, adding that Ankara was in touch with Damascus on this. Speaking to reporters on a return flight from a D-8 meeting in Egypt, Mr Erdogan said his Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan would visit Damascus soon to discuss the “new structure”, but did not elaborate. He said he hoped the formation of the new Syrian government, led by Ahmad Al Shara – also known as Abu Mohammad Al Jawlani – would herald a new level in bilateral ties.
