The president of the Red Cross on Monday urged Israeli and Palestinian leaders to show a “will to negotiate” to relieve human suffering in Gaza. Mirjana Spoljaric said the misery is “radiating outwards” as she warned of the laws of war – the Geneva Conventions signed 75 years ago on Monday – being undermined. Asked by The National about the Middle East conflict, Ms Spoljaric said she was “extremely concerned about the precedent that the situation in Gaza is setting for other conflicts”.
