Politicians from the ultra-Orthodox United Torah Judaism party criticized the Israeli Supreme Court’s decision that mandates the military conscription of ultra-Orthodox men, who often dedicate themselves to full-time Torah studies. Party chairman Yitzhak Goldknopf described the ruling as “expected and very unfortunate” in a post on X. “The State of Israel was established in order to be a home for the Jewish people whose Torah is the bedrock of its existence. The Holy Torah will prevail,” Mr Goldknopf wrote.
