Abdul Malik Al Houthi, the leader of Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi militia, said in a speech that US and British air strikes on his movement had “no effect”. Since mid-November, Houthis have launched hundreds of drones and missiles at commercial ships in the waterway, which carries around 12 per cent of global seaborne trade. Mr Al Houthi said in his speech that “this week, eight ships have been targeted with 26 missiles and drones,” adding that the group carried out a total of 153 attacks.
