Hamas welcomed Wednesday’s announcement by Ireland, Norway and Spain that the European nations would officially recognize Palestine as a state this month, and called upon other countries to similarly recognize Palestinians’ “legitimate national rights”. “We consider it an important step on the path to establishing our right to our land and establishing our independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital,” the Palestinian freedom movement said in a statement.
