Iran accused the UN of having double standards over Israel’s war in Gaza, claiming violence against Palestinian women and girls is under less scrutiny than a woman’s death in police custody in Tehran in 2022. Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian told the UN’s Human Rights Council in Geneva that Iran “would not forget what cries were raised in this place” after the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini led to widespread protests, a clampdown on dissent and an international fact-finding mission being sent to Iran. “Today, no meaningful action is taken by the UN system in response to the mass killing of thousands of women and girls in Gaza,” Mr Amirabdollahian claimed.
