Senior Chinese and US officials met in Thailand, as part of an attempt to lower tensions between the two powers. US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan pressed Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi to use his country’s diplomatic influence to convince Iran to curtail support for Houthis attacking Red Sea merchant vessels, a senior White House official said. The talks come ahead of an expected springtime call between President Joe Biden and Chinese leader Xi Jinping.
