جاپان کے مشرقی علاقے  کے فوکوشیما سمیت کئی شہروں میں زلزلے کےجھٹکے محسوس کیے گئے جبکہ زلزلے کی گہرائی زیر سمندر 60 کلومیٹر تھی جس کے باعث کئی جاپان کے کئی شہر لرز اٹھے۔زلزلے کے جھٹکے ٹوکیو اور سائی تامہ تک محسوس کیے گئے۔ زلزلے کے باعث ہزاروں گھروں کی بجلی معطل ہوگئی اور لوگ سڑکوں پر نکل آئے
