An endless military campaign in Gaza does not serve Israel’s security interests, the US State Department said, as it called on its ally and Hamas to accept a recent ceasefire proposal. “We don’t think this idea of total victory where you pursue a military campaign in perpetuity, with really no end in sight, is something that’s in the security interest of Israel,” State Department spokesman Matthew Miller told reporters.
