Lebanon has received guarantees from the US that Israel will “de-escalate” air strikes on Beirut and its southern suburbs, caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati has said. “During our contacts with the Americans last week, we received a kind of guarantee to reduce the escalation in the southern suburbs and Beirut, and the Americans are serious about pressuring Israel to reach a ceasefire,” the state-run National News Agency quoted Mr Mikati as saying in an interview with Al Jazeera.
