The UN Secretary General called on global leaders to support the loss and damage fund after its operation was agreed on the opening day of COP28. Antonio Guterres made his plea on X, formerly known as Twitter, where he also said: “I welcome the decision taken at the opening of COP28 to operationalise the new loss and damage fund – an essential tool for delivering climate justice. “I call on leaders to make generous contributions and get the fund and the climate conference started on a strong footing, ” he added.
