President Donald Trump on Wednesday demanded an immediate investigation after what he described as three “sinister” events at the UN General Assembly. Before he took to the podium on Tuesday, Mr Trump and his wife Melania jolted to a halt as they got on an escalator that came to a sudden stop. He claimed this was “absolute sabotage”, but the UN has said a White House videographer had tripped a safety switch at the top of the escalator. He also complained about a broken teleprompter and said his speech had not been amplified in the auditorium, which is standard practice as those attending must listen through earpieces.
