Iran’s envoy to the UN said that Tehran does not seek war or escalation but will not hesitate to defend its people, territory and sovereignty. “We respect international humanitarian law. We did not target civilians,” ambassador Amir Iravani told reporters in New York. He accused the US of supporting “Israeli aggression”. “Without US weapons, intelligence, and political backing, this attack could not have happened,” Mr Iravani said. “The United States will share responsibility for this unlawful act,” he added. He said the Israeli strike occurred just as nuclear negotiations were set to resume in Muscat on Sunday.
