According to an AFP calculation taken from official sources around 2100 GMT on Monday, more than 250 million COVID-19 illnesses have been recorded worldwide since the pandemic began. COVID-19 has caused more than five million fatalities worldwide, yet the vast majority of individuals infected have recovered. Some people, on the other hand, have continued to have symptoms weeks or even months afterwards. The data are based on daily reporting from each country's health authority.
