A senior Russian Foreign Ministry official has said Moscow is seeking to settle its territorial issues with Ukraine using what he called the “Anchorage formula”, an agreement reached between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin during talks in mid-2025.
Not much is known about what was agreed between Trump and Putin, but Dmitry Peskov, Russia’s spokesperson, said Russia expected Ukraine to withdraw from Luhansk and Donetsk. That would pave the way for Russia to formally annex the war-torn eastern Ukrainian regions.
