A simmering rift between Sudan’s military and the country’s most powerful paramilitary force morphed into open rivalry. Analysts fear that it could turn into a military confrontation with calamitous results. They stated that the alliance of convenience that existed between the military and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) served out its purpose. The alliance was formed shortly after the military ousted dictator Omar Al Bashir in 2019.
