The UAE told the UN Security Council that the protection of civilians in armed conflict, including in Gaza, was “non-negotiable”. Mohamed Abushahab, the UAE’s representative to the UN, said that Palestinian civilians in Gaza “are being deliberately and systematically targeted”, as the death toll from Israel’s assault on the enclave exceeded 35,700 people. “Behind every number there are lives stolen, people displaced, and families that have been entirely annihilated and erased from civil records,” Abushahab added.
