The Palestinian permanent observer to the UN has appealed to the International Committee of the Red Cross to intervene to protect Palestinian detainees held in Israeli prisons. Ibrahim Khraishi sent a letter to ICRC president Mirjana Spoljaric Egger on Friday, urging her to immediately act to safeguard the lives of Palestinian detainees who are subjected to torture, starvation and ill-treatment in Israeli detention cells, state news agency Wafa said. The move comes after a video shared on social media showed far-right Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir threatening prominent Palestinian detainee Marwan Barghouti in his cell.
