US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said on Friday that it was not appropriate for Israel to occupy Gaza in the long-term, as speculation mounts over the post-war future of the enclave. Mr. Sullivan has traveled to Israel for talks with the country’s leaders after criticism from Washington over the Gaza war. “We do not believe that it makes sense for Israel, or is right for Israel, to occupy Gaza, reoccupy Gaza over the long-term,” he said in Tel Aviv.
