Japan issued sanctions against four Israeli settlers on Tuesday over violence against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, a government spokesman confirmed. Tokyo said it would “steadily” freeze the assets of four settlers, who were unnamed, and “strongly urged the Israeli government to completely freeze settlement activities,” Reuters quoted Japan’s Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi as saying. Japan, a member of the G7, has repeatedly condemned the Israeli government for its occupation of the West Bank and commitment to expanding illegal settlements.
