The UN has said there is no safe place for Palestinians ordered to leave Gaza city, describing Israel’s designated “safe zones” in the south as “places of death”. Since launching its recent air and ground offensive, the Israeli military has repeatedly told Palestinians to head south. “The notion of a safe zone in the south is farcical,” said James Elder, a spokesman for UN children’s fund Unicef.
