Israel said that its troops had moved deeper into Gaza as they stepped up their assault on Hamas. Israeli troops are now operating in “various parts” of northern Gaza, “engaging with Hamas combatants” and “attacking them on the ground and from the air”, Israeli military spokesman Jonathan Conricus said in a briefing. “Heavily armoured vehicles, tanks, APCs [armoured personnel carriers], and bulldozers are entering into the Gaza Strip……engaging with Hamas combatants attacking them on the ground and also from the air,” he said.
