About 127 million people were registered to cast ballot, including five million first-time voters. With more than 173 million citizens in total, Bangladesh is the eighth most populous country in the world. As we reported earlier, the turnout was nearly 48 percent at 36,000 polling centres as of 2pm (08:00 GMT), but it could rise.
