Hamas welcomed the UN Security Council’s call for an immediate ceasefire butemphasizedd the need for a permanent ceasefire that would result in the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip. The Palestinian militant group said on its website that it was ready to move forward with an immediate prisoner exchange process that would lead to “the release of prisoners on both sides”. Hamas also called on the UN Security Council to put pressure on Israel to adhere to the ceasefire.
