Dr Ahmed Al Tayeb, the Grand Imam of Al Azhar, told of the urgent need to protect the environment from destruction. Dr Al Tayeb joined Pope Francis in signing a declaration of support for climate action, entitled the Call of Conscience, at the Faith Pavilion at Cop28. “The threat is embodied in natural disasters, sweeping floods, devastating wildfires, severe drought, extinction of species and the spread of diseases,” he said.
