German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has called on Israel to exercise restraint in its campaign in southern Lebanon, as Israel’s attacks and incursion into Lebanese territory expand and the civilian death toll mounts. Merz said Germany viewed the latest escalation in the south of the country with great concern, and he urged Hezbollah to lay down its arms, in comments carried by the Reuters news agency.
