Paris: It emerged on Jan 25 that an Iranian court sentenced French national Benjamin Briere to eight years in prison on spying charges. According to his Paris-based lawyer, the trial was a politically motivated travesty and his client as a “bargaining chip”. Briere, 36, has been in the desert near the Turkmenistan-Iran border.
