Far-right Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir visited Jerusalem’s Al Aqsa Mosque on Monday, in images circulated on Palestinian social media channels. His presence at the site is a provocative move that falls on Jerusalem Day, when Israel celebrates its capture of East Jerusalem in 1967. Photos showed a smiling Mr Ben-Gvir flanked by Jewish families, with some people draped in Israel flags, and a large security detail.
